All About Ivette
Ivette Alonso Garcia was born and raised in Hillsboro, Oregon, as the daughter of immigrants from Puebla, Mexico. As a first-generation Latina and the eldest daughter, she worked tirelessly alongside her four siblings
in the agricultural fields, learning the values of hard work and perseverance firsthand.
Ivette is a student at Oregon State University Honors College, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Aerospace Engineering, and double minoring in Spanish and Political Science. She is passionate about advocacy, policy change, amplifying the voices of the younger generation, and fostering healthier, more equitable communities. Ivette previously participated in the CHCI 2022 NextGen Latino Leadership Program, where she engaged in civic engagement and leadership workshops, explored the nation’s capital, and created lasting memories. She is actively involved in the Oregon Health Authority-Youth Advisory Council, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Youth Council, has participated in the Bank of America Student Leaders Program, and serves in the America’s Promise Alliance Youth Trustee Board.
Ivette has been recognized for her achievements, receiving the Oregon Title I-C Migrant Student of the Year (2022-2023) and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Youth Award (2023-2024), crediting her mentors, teachers, and family for their invaluable support.
As a HEP/CAMP and CHCI Intern, Ivette seeks to strengthen her leadership skills. She is eager to collaborate with others to advocate for marginalized communities and continue her journey of service and impact.
