Week 6- "Where Dreams Are Made Of"

Saturday, June 28, 2025- DC ᯓ ✈︎ NYC

The morning was so young--sun rising, the birds chirping their morning greeting. I had decided not to sleep that night as I wanted to sleep on the bus. We got to Union Station and waited there for our time to board. Stomach rumbling, I decided to get a breakfast sandwich before we departed for our 3-hour drive. We all made the decision to save some money, so we booked a bus ride instead of the Amtrak or an airplane.

We got on the bus, and my eyes started to close. Every once in a while, I would wake up with my neck hurting. I would reposition myself and fall back to sleep. I knew that sleep was going to be critical since we were going to bed late and wake up early so that we would have time to explore the city. As I opened my eyes for the last time, I saw the city right in front of me. I quickly got up and admired the so-called famous New York City. I started to see it all: the taxis, the NYPD patrol cars, the tall buildings, and the pizza restaurants.

We got out of the bus as a group and we looked for a place to eat. We spotted a Taco Place, and my mouth started watering. How long has it been since the last time I had Mexican Food!? As we walked into the place, I was thinking of how I wanted to order a big plate, but once those numbers started to clear out... OH MY... I looked at prices for one singular taco. It was the saddest day of my life. It was clear... I had made it to New York City. I ordered a singular taco, so I had to make sure that I ate it slowly, savoring the flavors that I had craved for so long.

Once the food stop was done, we started on our way to the hotel to drop off our things. On our way there, we decided to take the High Line, which was an old train rail turned into a beautiful walking place. It was nice and short, and it definitely gave us a good view of the city. We stopped and looked where the nearest subway station is and we made our way there.

After walking to the Subway station and dropping off our stuff at the hotel, we met up with Isabella, a CHCI Intern who was local to NYC. Isabella took us up to Koreatown, and that's where we found some Boom Korean Corndogs. For my second time trying them, it was the most delicious thing.

The entire day was spent alternating between taking the subway and walking across the city. We got to see Little Italy, the Sunset, lower down on the city, Dumbo, Manhattan Bridge, took a ride on the Ferry, a little peek of the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square in the middle of the night.

With 30k steps under our belts, we decided to go back to the hotel room to get a good night's rest. We all got ready in our 2-bed hotel room and wiggled ourselves to sleep together like sardines because we wanted to save money and spend a little more time together. The moment my head hit the pillow, I passed out.

Sunday, June 29, 2025- Exploring 🌃𓍙.ೃ࿔*:・

The next morning, we woke up early-ish to get ready and pack. We made our way to another adventure in getting brunch, and later on, made it to Central Park. We went souvenir shopping and ended our day back at the Iconic Flix Bus on our way back home to D.C. ❤️

Tuesday, July 1, 2025- Social Networking 💭 ✧˚ ༘ 💬⋆。˚📱

One of the MOST D.C. things to do is going to social networking events because that is where you meet all these amazing people, friends, and learn something new. After work, CHCI hosted a social networking event, so I waddled my way to the gathering. There were possibly around 200 people in attendance, and coincidentally, we met a former HEP/CAMP D.C. Intern. We exchanged each other's information so that we would always keep in touch throughout our time in D.C. and in the future! And that was the power of networking.
