After my 5-hour flight, I finally arrived in D.C. and was able to meet up with Patrick Doone and see where I'll be staying for the summer, and met William, my roommate. I unpacked my luggage and got ready to meet the rest of the HEP/CAMP and CHCI interns. Everybody was nice, and after dinner, the HEP/CAMP interns and I went to explore the National Mall at night, which I would highly recommend to everyone.

Monday
On Monday I explored the National Mall with the HEP/CAMP interns along with Virginia and Patrick, which was a great experience! We got a tour of the U.S. Capitol and had great food. After doing everything, the interns and I went grocery shopping y regresamos bien cargados.

Wednesday
Wednesday was a great day! We got to visit the American History Museum and got a tour of their Latino History exhibit, which was amazing. After the tour, we had a bit of time to continue exploring before we continued orientation and heard some great presentations.

Friday
Friday was a very busy day with so many emotions. The HEP/CAMP people and I began by taking headshots on the Capitol steps, and then began visiting each other's offices and meeting our supervisors. Some of us were very nervous about meeting our placement offices, but also very excited! We had lunch with Irene Bueno, which was so nice of her to cater for us and involved great conversation.
Additionally, Andres and I got to meet our placement office, The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), which was amazing! Ray Serrano, the speaker, and the fellows were all super welcoming, and I am very excited to learn from them and do my part in helping in whichever way I can. We then had a final dinner with Virginia and Patrick, as this was their last day here in D.C. with us, which was very sad as they've both played a huge part in assisting with everything that is our internship. Thank you for everything, Patrick and Virginia! After dinner, the HEP/CAMP interns and I got to hang out with the CHCI interns and watch a movie, which was great. This was basically the end to my week, and I am very excited for what week 2 brings!
