06.30.2024 Formula One and Museums

Sunday’s are Formula-One days. It has become my favorite sport, and my dedication to it shows no limits. The Austrian GP proved to be an incredible race; the fights, overtaking, and drama that occurred were exhilarating, and even though there was a big crash, the outcome was still unpredictable until the very end. Afterwords, once again, I found myself planning more museum tours. This time Perla and I, after realizing we did not have tickets for the Air and Space Museum, chose to explore the American History Museum. We made the trek of defeat, crossing the national mall while dying in the heat and humidity of the swamp that is Washington, D.C. I had previously been to the American History Museum but had not had the opportunity to explore it entirely. I had just visited the Molina section. This time, we stayed until closing and explored all the floors. We saw how transportation in America evolved, movements in this country, presidential information, and the importance of music and pop culture in this country.

07.03.2024 Game Day and Goodbye’s

Wednesday at work proved to be a roller coaster of emotions. First, it was Maria’s last day. Her internship was extremely short, in my opinion, and it made me sad to see her go. I will miss the jokes and laughs we made and the way we joined together to mess with Matias. We had cake to celebrate, and the office made her a card with best wishes. Afterwards, I learned what it means to have phones flooded with calls and to have press releases ready to go at a moment's notice. It was a whirlwind of activity that left me feeling both overwhelmed and exhilarated. I have no idea how one interview could create so much attention and notice. We spent the rest of the afternoon answering calls and being trained on how to respond. After work, although I was completely drained, I headed over to the National Game, where I met up with Perla and the other HACU interns to start celebrating America's birthday early. I will say the game was tough; however, the team won, and the firework show was incredible. It set the tone for the beginning of this holiday.

07.04.2024 America’s Birthday

First and foremost, happy Fourth of July!!! To begin the celebration, my office invited me to attend the Independence Parade. I knew that we had been provided VIP tickets however, I had no idea that we were in the reserved area in the front row. It was awesome to be so close to the camera crews and that the parade performers were performing in front of us. Although it was very humid, the parade was wonderful, and seeing all the marching bands perform was a great experience.

Afterwards, I went home to relax and cool off before the real show began at 6:30. I made my way over to the Capitol for the concert and fireworks show. The staff had a specific entrance and section. Joining me were Perla and Kershlyn, and after a long wait, we ended up in a great section of the Capitol. The energy and excitement of the crowd made it a truly memorable Fourth of July celebration. From our seats, we could see how the National Mall filled up and the number of people gathered for this holiday. We listened to music and snacked as the night got closer, we reached 9:09. The fireworks were spectacular! They were accompanied by the symphony orchestra, and together, it was a masterful performance. It was truly a magical experience that we will never forget.

07.07.2024 Community Service and Aircraft

Today, Esme, Gizel, Juan Diego, and I completed our individual volunteer hours. After weeks of undecidedness, we volunteered at a homeless shelter and helped prep and serve brunch. We arrived a few minutes late due to the unpredictable nature of the Metro buses, and even with a sprint, we did not make it on time. Thankfully, the organization did not mind, and we incorporated quickly. It was a rewarding experience to give back to the community and connect with those in need. During the three hours, we got the opportunity to see how crucial initiatives like Shepherds Table are.

Afterwards, I split up from the group and headed back to meet up with Perla because we were going on an adventure. We hopped on the Silver Metro and rode it for an hour into Virginia. After a short Uber ride, we made it to the Udvar Hazy National Air and Space Museum. After finding out about the hangers, I had been wanting to go. The place was incredible, and the planes were dangerously beautiful. The museum had a wide variety of aircraft on display, from historical planes to space shuttles. It was fascinating to learn about the history of aviation and space exploration. I visited the NASA station in Houston when I was younger, and this museum was just as cool. Once the museum closed, we headed back and admired the scenery and greenery of the trees and landscape. It was a successful yet trying fun day.
