All About Esmeralda

Esmeralda was born and raised in a small town, Porterville, CA located in the southern area of the San Joaquin Valley by immigrant parents who migrated to the United States at the ages of 14 and 12. As a first-generation college student, Esmeralda understands the importance of completing her education and making an impact in her community and other communities she comes across. On campus, she has participated in programs such as the Health Professions Program, Health Careers Opportunity Program, and the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). Esmeralda has always made it her priority to take initiative in her future as a professional and as an individual while using her challenges as motivation.

Esmeralda is a freshman at California State University, Fresno majoring in Biology with the intention of pursuing a pre-medical career. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Esmeralda hopes to enter medical school. Her ultimate career goal is to become a cardiothoracic surgeon to focus on helping the underrepresented community and provide equitable and valuable health care services.

As a HEP/CAMP intern, Esmeralda hopes to strengthen her knowledge of the legislative processes, as well as gain insight on the effects of current labor laws and the lack of acknowledgement from people in power. She hopes to use this experience to make a difference in her community and inspire others to advocate and use their voices, so they are heard and acknowledged.
