All About William

William Chavez-Rodriguez was born in Selma, California, and raised in the small town of Caruthers, California. As a first-generation college student, he understands the importance and power of education.

William is a student at Lemoore College, where he is pursuing a degree in History. On campus, he volunteered as a tutor for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP), supporting students who are migrants or seasonal farmworkers. Off-campus, he has served as an Inter-Act Tutor for elementary students in underserved communities. Upon completion of his associate's degree, William plans to transfer to a four-year university and continue to pursue his studies in History. After completing his undergraduate degree, he hopes to earn his teaching credential and master's degree in the same field. His ultimate career goal is to work in education, and he is very interested in a career with the HEP/CAMP program. William aspires to contribute to the advancement of education in his community throughout his career.

As a HEPCAMP Intern, William hopes to learn more about constituent services and advocacy, see and understand how Congress supports farmworkers and immigrant communities, and, most importantly, he hopes he can inspire his small rural community to believe that anything is possible.
