My Story

Andres Enriquez is the Director of the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at California State University, Sacramento. A former HEP student, he earned his GED through the program and has over 20 years of experience in HEP and CAMP leadership across the country. Originally from Mexico, Mr. Enriquez immigrated to the United States at the age of 16 and worked in migrant and seasonal farm labor for ten years. He later earned a B.A. in Management Information Systems and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Washington State University, as well as a Master of Education from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He is the author of Con Todo en Contra / Against All Odds and leads one of the top-performing HEP/CAMP programs in the nation.

Strengthening Outreach & Recruitment in Challenging Times: Practical Strategies for HEP Program Sustainability.

This interactive session brings together experienced HEP Directors who will share effective outreach and recruitment strategies that are currently yielding positive results in their programs. Presenters will discuss proven, adaptable approaches for rebuilding trust, strengthening recruitment pipelines, and responding to the evolving needs of migrant communities in today’s complex sociopolitical climate. Designed for both new and seasoned HEP professionals, this session emphasizes peer learning and collaboration. Participants will engage in facilitated discussion, share challenges from their own programs, and leave with practical tools and strategies that can be implemented immediately. Presenters will also establish connections with attendees to support continued professional development and cross-program collaboration.
